He may be going full speed ahead, but Aaron Tan of Carro puts on the brakes to speak to Daphne Teo & Jeffrey Lu about his fascination with cars and coding.

Daphne Teo (DT) Most important risk you’ve taken and why?

Aaron Tan (AT) The biggest risk I’ve taken was starting up Carro, even though I had a comfortable, well-paying job. Together with fellow co-founders, Aditya Lesmana and Kelvin Chng, we observed that there was a lack of transparency in the car buying and selling experience in Southeast Asia. To address this, we created Carro in 2015 with the idea of allowing consumers to select a plan and drive off with a car without worrying about annual depreciation and unexpected expenses. I’ve been fortunate to have met like-minded people along the way who were willing to be a part of Carro’s journey and together, we’ve successfully built the largest car marketplace in Southeast Asia.
