This month the cover and editorial of our Saint Martin Magazine are dedicated to St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. His lorica is featured on pg. 27. A lorica is a type of prayer for protection (literally meaning ‘breastplate’ ) which was popular in Celtic countries. The ‘Lorica of St Patrick’ is a powerful hymn of hope for God’s help in adversity. Ray Hughes takes us to Mont Saint-Michel in his article on Lesser – Known Pilgrimage Sites. While ancient in origin, with a very medieval feel, Mont Saint-Michel has a lot to teach us today. Although she remained obscure during her lifetime, Thérèse of Lisieux is one of the most popular saints in the history of the Catholic Church. Her parents Louis Martin and Marie Azèlie Guerin are the subjects of Married Saints. Both were particularly dedicated to God and five of their daughters entered religious life. This month’s famous convert is Joseph Dutton, assistant to Fr Damian Molokai, who worked on a leper colony in Hawaii for 16 years, eventually contracting the disease himself. The colourful wallflower brightens the pages of The Cloister Garden just as it is the first flower to brighten the winter garden.
