Protests against the Waqf Amendment Act continue to take shape across North Bengal
Tensions have begun to simmer across North Bengal—from Malda to Cooch Behar—after videos surfaced on social media showing hundreds of Hindu families taking shelter at Parlalpur High School in Baisnabnagar, Malda. These families reportedly fled from Dhulian in Murshidabad district following a communal clash sparked by protests over the Waqf Amendment Act.
Emotional accounts from the displaced, especially women, have been widely circulated online, further fueling unease in the region. Rumours surrounding the incident in Ward No. 4 of Dhulian Municipality, where around 500 families reportedly crossed the Ganges to seek safety, have only added to the apprehension.
