Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan make comebacks while seven players receive maiden central contracts
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were re-included in the annual contract list for the national men's cricket team that the BCCI unveiled on Monday. Rishabh Pant has been upgraded to Group A even as seven players have been handed the central contract for the first time. The contracts will be valid from 1 October, 2024 to 30 September, 2025.
Retaining its earlier format, with players slotted in four categories — A+, A, B and C, the BCCI announced a 34-player list, which didn't feature the fast bowling contracts handed last year. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah continue to be retained in the A+ category. Ravichandran Ashwin was the obvious exclusion from the list after the star off-spinner announced his international retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar series Down Under last year.

End single-use to turn the tide on plastic
lastic pollution is an increasing global crisis despite large-scale awareness and extensive mitigation efforts. Existing waste management systems and recycling technologies have failed to control the plastic menace. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, about 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic materials were produced between 1950 and 2017, with 7 billion tonnes ending up in landfills or the environment. The Global Plastic Outlook 2022 report of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) confirms that less than 10 per cent of plastic waste is recycled. It has now become clear that we cannot recycle our way out of the plastic crisis.
