Deputy Speaker jumps from Maha Mantralaya's 3rd floor, lands on net

MAHARASHTRA Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal and three other legislators on Friday jumped from the third floor of the state secretariat, Mantralaya, onto the safety net just a floor below to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribe list.

Zirwal, an MLA of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar-led NCP, his party legislator Kiran Lahamate, Congress MLA Hiraman Khoskar and BJP tribal MP Hemant Savara breached the police security and jumped onto the safety net, installed in 2018 as a precautionary measure to prevent suicide attempts at Mantralaya. No injuries were reported in the incident that saw tense moments unfolding at the six-storey Mantralaya complex, police said.
