CMDA okays reclassification of 6 acres marked as river in Nandambakkam

The six acres of land were denied permission to be reclassified for the past 17 years. The previous authority meeting which had planned to reclassify the particular portion of land termed could not proceed after protest by NGOs, which questioned the revenue record put forth by the private entity.

The water resources department said the boundaries were demarcated by the revenue department during the construction of compound wall on the western side abutting Adyar River.

"The site needs filling up to the depth of 1.2m to 2.69m from the existing level in order to protect inundation," said the agenda tabled during the authority meeting. Similarly, Greater Chennai Corporation has said it has to re-examine the regularisation approval for the plot.
