Mangoes are cultivated in 10,000 hectares in Mandya, says DC

MANDYA district, widely known as the 'Sugar Bowl of Karnataka' for its vast sugarcane cultivation, is witnessing a growing shift among farmers towards horticulture crops like mango and jackfruit which offer higher returns.
In response to this trend, the district administration, in collaboration with the Horticulture department, organised a 'Mango and Jackfruit Mela 2025' -- an exhibition-cum-sale fair -- on Monday.
Inaugurating the event, Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that mangoes are now cultivated approximately on 10,000 hectares in the district, yielding over 20,000 tonnes annually.
He emphasised that the fair aims to create a direct market for mango and jackfruit growers, ensuring farmers get fair prices while consumers receive quality produce.
