DEBT mutual funds are set to lose tax advantage as the government has proposed to treat capital gains arising from debt mutual funds as short-term capital gains. Tax advantage was one of the biggest reasons for investors to choose debt funds over fixed deposits.
Bank FDs will be major beneficiaries as both debt funds and bank FDs will be subject to same taxability on maturity. The Asset Under Management of debt funds stood at â¹13 lakh crore as of February 2023
