Mumbai's Illegal billboard couldn’t be removed due to a dispute’ between BMC, Rly Police

- SUDHIR SURYAWANSHI

Hoarding owner booked, toll 14

A day after the collapse of an illegal hoarding on a petrol pump claimed 14 lives in Mumbai's Ghatkopar, it now appears the giant billboard (120x120 sq ft) was erected amid a dispute between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the railway police over who has the authority to demolish it.

On the other hand, the police on Tuesday booked Bhavesh Bhinde, whose company Ego Media erected the billboard, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Bhinde has over 20 police cases against him, including rape. Police officials said Bhinde is on the run and his cellphone is switched off.
