Local leader takes on national tourism position

A WELL-KNOWN figure in the North East business community has been appointed to a national role in the tourism industry.
NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) chief executive Sarah Green has been appointed by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to be a board member of VisitEngland, the national tourist board.
She will serve a five-year term, beginning this month.
Dr Green has led NGI since 2020, promoting Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider North East as a place to visit and leading efforts to grow the area's tourism economy.
She saw NGI awarded England's first Local Visitor Economy Partnership accreditation in 2022 and secured £2.8m in funding from the Government.
