Johnson is too busy creating chaos to write his memoir
The Independent|January 17, 2023
The news that Boris Johnson has agreed on a deal with HarperCollins to publish a memoir "like no other" inevitably calls to mind that famous quote of Winston Churchill:
- SEAN O'GRADY
Johnson is too busy creating chaos to write his memoir

"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it myself." Of course, in reality, Churchill's record spoke for itself, and, unfortunately, the same is true of Johnson's eventful time in office.

Whether Johnson succeeds in lifting his presently tarnished reputation remains to be seen. Whether anyone believes anything in it, apart from the ISBN number, is also rather uncertain. The announcement has already sparked speculation on social media as to what the title of the book might be, with one commentator suggesting the clever "Etonment", or "Liar's Joker". More than most memoirs it will be an act of selfvindication, and, as we know, Johnson is not one for a mea culpa.

Though no publication date has been set, it all seems a little premature to be thinking of his "legacy". Johnson is yet to face the House of Commons investigation into whether he lied to parliament, for example. Certainly, Johnson doesn't look like a man about to retire.

Premiership promises more thrilling battles for play-offs

The Gallagher Premiership's marketing team have been hard at work giving the end of the season a big sell. News came through as the league resumed after the Six Nations of a couple of key linguistic tweaks that the English top flight were keen to emphasise as the denouement loomed into view. The sprint to the finish would be dubbed \"The Run In\", while the term \"Play-offs\" - previously avoided for fears of unnecessary Americanisation - would now be preferred for the two fixtures formerly known as semi-finals.
