STEVEN Schumacher admitted Plymouth Argyle never had enough control of the game as they lost 2-1 to Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium.
The Pilgrims did open the scoring in their second game of the season with a 23rd-minute penalty from striker Ryan Hardie after Bali Mumba was fouled by Fleetwood defender Toto Nsiala.
However, Town equalised through Dan Batty soon afterwards and went on to win the game with an 88th-minute close-range finish from substitute Joe Garner.
Schumacher said: "I thought the performance was average, we played okay. In certain spells in the second half we passed the ball nicely but then didn't have an end product.
"First half, I thought we were a bit too direct. I didn't think we deserved to win the game but I definitely don't think we deserved to lose it either."
Garner struck late on for Fleetwood after Argyle goalkeeper Mike Cooper had parried away a shot from Cian Hayes. The visitors then applied plenty of pressure during eight minutes of added-on time as they chased an equaliser.
