Long delays, especially around the A386 Tavistock Road, have been a daily occurrence. The council has apologized and admits the situation is frustrating, but that there are reasons why some of the works have had to be carried out at the same time.
It added that, while it is doing its best to mitigate for disruption, delays are unfortunately inevitable.
City Fibre is currently upgrading broadband along Miller Way and Western Power is working along Plymbridge Road, while the city council is undertaking its own scheme at Morlaix Drive, a 300 meters stretch of single carriageway that links Brest Road with Derriford Hospital.
The Morlaix Drive Access Improvement Scheme will see Morlaix Drive widened to allow the flow of two-way traffic. In order to carry out the improvements, Morlaix Drive will be closed to hospital inbound traffic. In addition, Brest Road will be closed northbound for its entirety, all the way to the Derriford roundabout.
A council spokesperson said drivers are changing their normal routes to avoid some of the areas where roadworks are being carried out, and congestion on Tavistock Road is the result.
