Tomato prices surge to ₹90 per kg; farmers cheer, Bengaluru consumers not amused
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|November 28, 2025
Tomato prices in Bengaluru markets have witnessed a sharp rise over the past 8-10 days, climbing from ₹10-20 per kg last month to ₹80-90 per kg now.
Traders warn that the "red beauty" may soon touch the ₹100 mark, adding to household expenses and consumer anxiety.
Just two months ago, tomato growers were forced to dump their produce on roads due to a steep price crash. The sudden rebound has brought relief to farmers, who are finally seeing profits. However, for consumers, the surge has meant cutting down purchases — many households now buy half a kilo instead of a kilo.
