New Rule: Aadhaar cannot support age verification in official records

UIDAI guidelines cited departments asked to rely only on original primary documents.

- UP State Bureau

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a major directive clarifying that the Aadhaar card will no longer be accepted as a valid document for verifying a person's date of birth.

The decision was communicated through an official order from the Planning Department to all Principal Secretaries and Additional Chief Secretaries across state departments.

The order follows a communication issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 31 October, which stated that the date of birth recorded on Aadhaar is often “approximate” and therefore cannot be treated as an authentic proof document. UIDAI instructed all institutions to avoid using Aadhaar for age verification in sensitive or official processes.
