Tiger Brands sells its iconic Bryanston head office

January 14, 2026

The country’s largest food producer, Tiger Brands, is in the process of selling its iconic and sprawling head office campus in Bryanston.

- Hilton Tarrant

It has not disclosed the value of the transaction but says the proceeds “will be allocated in line with its capital allocation framework”.

The 9 960m² A-Grade offices were listed for sale by Megatrend Properties with no publicly listed asking price.

The group’s motivation is similar to that of The Spar Group, which has simplified its operations over the last 18 months under CEO Angelo Swartz, but Tiger CEO Tjaart Kruger is an even tougher taskmaster.

Tiger has been bloated for years, since the days of the late Peter Matlare (2008 to 2015), and arguably even before that.

Kruger rejoined Tiger as CEO in 2023 from rival Premier Foods. Between 2001 and 2007, he had been the managing executive for the pharmaceuticals and grains divisions at Tiger (the former was unbundled as Adcock Ingram).

After rejoining, Kruger transitioned Tiger to a federated operating model.

This means the bakeries, culinary, grains, home and personal care, as well as snacks, treats and beverages divisions now run as autonomous units, with strategy being defined at the top/centre.
