NAVARA: SERIES OF UPGRADES FOR LOCALLY BUILT MODEL AS PART OF ITS RANGE RENEWAL

Nissan doubles down on Africa

Nissan has reaffirmed its commitment to South Africa by announcing it will bring a series of upgrades to the locally built Navara as part of its range renewal already bolstered by the facelift of the Magnite and lightly updated X-Trail.

“South Africa is not only the headquarters of our operations in [Africa], but also the entire continent. Nissan has been in South Africa for 60 years, and we are committed to South Africa and Africa,” Nissan managing director for South Africa and Independent African Markets, Maciej Klenkiewicz, said at a round-table discussion in Joburg last week.

The event coincided with the unveilings of the updated X-Trail and returning special edition Magnite Kuro.

Klenkiewicz said the automaker’s well-publicised challenges regarding its finances and job losses hadn't spilt over to Africa where it hasn't been as hard hit as in North America.

“Africa is in quite a good shape when we look at the product portfolio... as well as the fact that we have a second factory in Egypt,” he said.

It feels silly to even suggest this, but based on the performances of the country's strong spin bowling contingent, Keshav Maharaj's place in the national Test team might be in danger.
