Council agrees to write off more than £350,000 in 'irrecoverable debt'

|December 25, 2025
TAMWORTH Borough Council has agreed to write off more than £350,000 in 'irrecoverable debt'.
The council says it views write offs as exceptions and states they are committed to taking all steps to collect all debt.
The debt, from the period of April 1 to September 30, which totals £378,401.50, is made up from council tax, business rates and housing benefit overpayments.
There are various reasons the council has decided to scrap it, including the debt being statute barred, the council being unable to locate the person and it not being financially viable.
