'High standard of privacy' promise for shared house

Plans for a new eight-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO) in a residential area have been submitted to South Tyneside development bosses.

South Tyneside Council's planning department has received an application for 12 Surrey Street near West Park in the Jarrow area.

Plans from applicant Maytree Property Group are seeking permission to change the use of a "dwelling house" to an eight-bedroom HMO.

Proposed floor plans show eight en-suite bedrooms across three floors, along with a ground floor communal kitchen/dining area and amenity area and a cycle storage area in garage space.

A planning statement submitted to council officials provides more details on plans to "reconfigure the existing dwelling" to create the HMO and lists external alterations as part of the plans.
