THE world's fastest growing sport is heading to Widnes after concerns from local councillors were seemingly addressed.

Widnes Tennis Club on Highfield Road has had an application for two Padel courts rubber-stamped by Halton planners.

Padel, also called Padel tennis, is a racquet sport usually played in doubles on an enclosed court.

It has been compared to a cross between tennis and squash, where the ball can bounce off the court's glass wall or surrounding metallic mesh.

The game was founded in Mexico in 1969 and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) describes Padel as "the fastest-growing sport in the world" and as "an innovative form of tennis".
