Five wonderful walks to celebrate 25 years of the National Trust for Scotland's Footpath Fund appeal

IT'S DIFFICULT to overstate the benefits of a good walk. Fresh air, exercise, and inspiring views can do wonders for the body and the soul.

Research by the charity, the National Trust for Scotland has also shown that 95% of the population believe spending time outdoors is a great stress buster too.

And this country serves up some of the world’s most majestic landscapes for those looking to hike their way to happiness.

In total, the Trust cares for 76,000 hectares of countryside, with 300 miles of footpaths running around ancient lochs, along rugged coastlines, through wild woodland, across the Highlands and up to the summits of 46 mighty Munros.

This year also marks 25 years since the Trust's Footpath Fund was launched to help protect and maintain these precious trails.

Thanks to the donations of supporters, the Footpath team has helped millions of people enjoy Scotland's worldrenowned natural beauty.
