Soren promises 7 kg ration per month if re-elected, says UCC won't be allowed

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday made several promises to voters if his Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition returns to power, pledging to enhance food security and social welfare measures in the state. Soren announced that beneficiaries under the Public Distribution.

System (PDS) would receive 7 kilograms of food grain per month, up from the current 5 kilograms. He also assured an increase in pension amounts, drawing a stark contrast between his party’s policies and those implemented during previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administrations. Soren alleged that under the BJP’s rule, numerous tribal and Dalit families suffered due to inadequate access to rations and pensions, pointing to cancellations of 11 lakh ration cards and three lakh pensions, which he claimed led to severe hunger issues.

“I am proud that while deaths due to hunger were common in the BJP rule, in your Abua (our) government, every Jharkhandi is getting ration, pension, and nutrition as per their rights,” he posted on X, previously known as Twitter.
