Prajwal Revanna, a suspended member of the JD(S) party and Member of Parliament (MP), was detained by authorities this Friday after he arrived from Germany.
-
He had left the country a month ago after explicit videos of his alleged actions circulated in Karnataka’s Hassan.
A special court in the city remanded him to police custody until June 6.
In a clear message, a team of women police officers greeted Prajwal Revanna upon his arrival, executing a warrant and taking him to the CID office for interrogation.
After evading summons and staying abroad for over a month, the 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda landed past midnight from Munich, Germany. He was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) minutes later and taken for questioning.
He was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K N Shivakumar, who heard the remand application and the defence’s objections before remanding Prajwal to police custody.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that the NDA Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan, accused of sexually abusing several women, was arrested following due process.
Prajwal’s advocate, Arun G, mentioned that his client was fully cooperating with the SIT probe and cautioned against a media trial.
