ED raids J khand minister’s help; recovers Rs 25-cr cash

The Enforcement Directorate announced on Monday its recovery of approximately Rs 25 crore in “unaccounted” cash and numerous official documents during searches conducted at the residence of a domestic help employed by a secretary of Jharkhand minister Alamgir

Alam, according to official sources. Simultaneously, the central agency seized over Rs 3 crore in cash from other locations within the state as part of an investigation into money laundering linked to the state rural development department, the sources revealed.

This ongoing probe, initiated by the ED last year, has already resulted in the arrest of a former chief engineer from the state rural development department.

The Congress, meanwhile, said the personal secretary (PS) to Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam also worked as the PS of a former BJP minister. 

Videos and images shared by officials depicted the agency personnel unloading stacks of currency notes from large bags within a 2BHK flat situated at Gadikhana Chowk.

The agency employed eight notecounting machines and bank personnel to determine the precise amount of currency, which predominantly consisted of Rs 500 notes. Central paramilitary forces personnel were stationed to secure the building housing the flat during the operation.

As many as eight note-counting machines were deployed by the agency apart from bank staff to ascertain the exact amount of currency that was majorly in the Rs 500 denomination. Personnel of central paramilitary forces stood guard at the building where the flat is located.
