Quinn (below) had fired in four goals on his debut for Newcastle against Leeds in 1989 and the celebrations in the Tyneside bars had continued into the early hours.
He recalled: “My dad and uncles came to watch my debut.
“I hadn’t bought a bevy all night after just walking around in my Newcastle No.9 shirt.
“They were staying in a hotel in the city and we had carried on drinking until around 2am.
