Fittest Family's Davy doesn't like watching himself on screen

DAVY FITZGERALD said he has to leave the room whenever he comes on the screen during episodes of Ireland's Fittest Family.

The Clare hurling legend is one of the coaches on the popular RTÉ show.

Now in charge of Antrim, he has been with the show since the start and is now in his 13th season coaching families from all over the country.

Davy loves the show and describes taking part as giving him a "buzz" and "pride" similar to the experiences he savoured in hurling.

Yet despite his longevity, he still can't get used to seeing himself dishing out the orders.

Davy tells Fitter Happier:

"At home, we might watch Fittest Family but when I come on I'll step out of the room.

"I wouldn't watch myself because I hate watching myself. I don't like it.

"I don't want to change the person I am either.

"If I watch myself I might get critical and say, 'Ah Jaysus, you're too loud'.

"When I'm actually doing it, I'm doing it the way I feel in my heart. I love that."

Fitzgerald said he loves taking part in the show and relishes the challenges each new family brings.
