Gangster shot dead in Bihar court complex; 2 minors held

A 34-year-old gangster was shot dead by two members both minors of a rival gang in a civil court in Patna on Friday, police said.

While the two assailants were immediately nabbed, thrashed and handed over to the police by the crowd, police said two firearms, live cartridges and empty shells were recovered from their possession, raising serious questions about the security system in a heavily protected zone.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajiv Mishra said the incident took place at Danapur civil court when the gangster, Abhishek alias Chhote Sarkar, arrived to appear before the court of DJ-III Manoj Kumar Srivastava in a 2019 murder case.

Sarkar, a resident of Sikandarpur in rural Patna, was arrested on July 3 last year. Police said the deceased was a member of Pandav gang that primarily indulges in extortion and murders. At least 18 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery and arms possession were registered against him.
