Max temp continues to rise, mercury at just below 30°C

Mercury continued to rise across the city on Tuesday, with bright sunshine and calm winds pushing the maximum temperature close to 30°C in some areas.

Safdarjung, Delhi's base weather station, recorded a maximum of 29.7°C—six degrees above normal for this time of the year and the highest maximum so far in 2024. The temperature was 28°C on Monday and 27.4°C on Sunday.

Pitampura in west Delhi was even hotter, with the maximum reaching 30.2°C, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.

The highest maximum recorded at Safdarjung last February was also 29.7°C (February 18), while February 2023 saw a peak of 33.6°C (February 21).

An increase in surface wind speed from Wednesday is likely to bring a slight dip in temperatures, though they will continue to remain above normal, officials said.
