GOLF stars, lonely women and the first female lawyers ... a glimpse of life in Scotland 100 years ago has been unveiled today.

The 1921 census paints a picture of a country with a smaller, less diverse, population recovering from World War I and Spanish flu.

The social changes that would change the 20th century were starting to happen, but life was still grim for many Scots.

The data is now available on the family-history website

Scotland's People. It has been updated to include over 9000 volumes of district books, with more than 200,000 images of 4.8million individual records.

The entries show where the person was living and their relationships to everyone else in the household, their age and occupation.
