Big high.. to big low

IT'S had its ups and downs, but a roller coaster that was once the longest in the world is now heading for the scrap yard.

The Ultimate Coaster runs for almost a mile and a half and was the longest in the world from 1991, when it opened, until 2000, when it was overtaken by a ride in Japan.

Now the Lightwater Valley theme park has decided The Ultimate, which has been out of service for three years, should be dismantled and its steel sold for scrap.

The seven-minute thrill ride is among a number of attractions the park, near Ripon, North Yorks, has sold or got rid of in recent years.
