En la Pinacoteca de São Paulo se respira arte y se siente como un refugio seguro y alcanzable para toda forma de expresión cultural. Este fue mi sentimiento al llegar a este inspirador lugar que a partir del pasado 16 de marzo le abrió las puertas a la impresionante instalación Topography of Memory, de la artista Sallisa Rosa, por encargo de Audemars Piguet Contemporary. La obra ya había sido expuesta antes en el Collins Park Rotunda de Miami, bajo el marco de Art Basel de esa ciudad, en diciembre de 2023. Pero ahora, la sensación es que la inmensa instalación de cerámica de Sallisa Rosa ha llegado a casa al ocupar el espacio de un galerón de altos techos y con fondo de verdes árboles, un recinto muy especial y apropiado el de la Pinacoteca. Hablamos con Sallisa Rosa sobre su obra, sus procesos creativos, sus inspiraciones y su recorrido artístico por el mundo.
¿Podrías describir el proceso de creación de Topography of Memory?
Para moldear la cerámica usé un proceso de enrollado que había visto utilizar a otros artesanos. Mediante el proceso físico de fabricación de las cerámicas, las reprogramo, transfiriendo la memoria a la arcilla. También cocí las cerámicas en un horno tradicional, que tarda tres días en calentarse. El fuego se alimenta con ramas de los alrededores, creando un vínculo con la tierra.
¿Por qué elegiste la memoria como tema principal de esta instalación de cerámica? ¿Por qué es importante para ti preservarla?
