LOUISE NEWBURY-SMITH and her 13-year-old stallion Giovanni II (Uphill x Welt Hit II) overcame tension and nerves to land the elementary 59 with 69.38%.
“Gio can occasionally get tense at a show, and I have to be careful I don’t trigger that as I suffer from competition nerves,” said Louise.
“I’ve recently had some neuro-linguistic programming guidance from Tracey Cole, which is helping. We’ve had a bit of a roller coaster of scores of late due to that tension, but we gave ourselves more time in the warm-up today and I tried to ride with more clarity.
“The score reflected exactly how it felt, which was a personal best for Gio and me at elementary.”
Louise works full-time for a global software company and has to travel a lot.
