Tips for running in the heat

The global ultra-scene has exploded over the past 10 years. When I started it was a relatively unknown sport, however, there are now more and more races and challenges appearing on the calendar every year. Boundaries are being pushed in terms of distance, ascent and terrain – as well as extreme temperatures – with new formats such as timed events and Back Yard Ultras becoming popular. Just when I think it’s time to hang up my ultra-shoes, I find new things I want to add to my never-ending bucket list!

And after many years of running, my legs are conditioned for long distances. When training for an event, I like to train specifically, often focusing on my weaknesses. For mountain races such as The Montane Lakeland 100, Tor des Géants and Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, I focus on ascent and descents, and getting in the hours on long and steep hills.
