West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, after reviewing the flood situation in six southern districts of the state, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the “unprecedented release of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) dams” has led to the “man-made” crisis.
She called on the Centre to draft a plan to upgrade the storage capacity of the dams to prevent such situations in the future.
Mamata, in her four-page letter, said 16 people died due to the flood and tens of thousands of farmers have lost their land and livelihood.
