TWO coffee shop owners who were hit with a five-figure bill and the threat of jail for breaking lockdown rules have rounded on the Prime Minister. They say his staff got away with £50 fines ‘and a slap on the wrist!
Finla Coffee owners Deanna Yates and Michael Pendlebury (pictured right), say they have had to close as a direct result of being taken to court by Plymouth City Council for continuing to serve customers on two days in November 2020.
The venue was attended by police and council staff, as well as local media, and within weeks charges were brought by Plymouth City Council, which accused the firm of failing "to close and cease selling food and drink”, adding that it had "failed without reasonable excuse to close premises or part of the premises in which food or drink were sold for consumption on those premises" on November 6 and 7, 2020.
It noted that the act was done "contrary to regulations. In addition, Deanna and Michael were themselves charged with being in charge of the firm which breached the legislation.
