A FATHER and his 17-year-old son have transformed a suburban café into a new community hub.
Ross Symons said he wanted to create a modern space for students who attend Discovery College and the YMCA on Honicknowle Lane to enjoy hot food and hang out.
Along with his son Joshua Symons, aged 17, Ross has taken on the café, which is part of the YMCA, and have transformed it from an 1980s-style common room into a community hub (pictured above right) with comfortable seating and pool tables.
They have named the venue Bill’s Boys Bistro, in memory of Ross’s late father, William.
Joshua, a student at Discovery College studying a business diploma, is helping to run the café with his dad, and gaining vital hands-on experience for the future.
Ross said that the family-owned café “came out of nowhere” but, when the opportunity arose to take over the café in the YMCA, he jumped at it.
