Continuity could be key as Argyle enter new era

THE appointment of Steven Schumacher by Plymouth Argyle means as little disruption as possible after the sudden departure of Ryan Lowe.

After almost four years working for Lowe, first at Bury and then Argyle, Schumacher has now ascended to the number one role.

Aged 37 and settled in Plymouth with his young family, Schumacher has been a quiet but effective force behind the scenes at Home Park.

He and Lowe were very much a partnership and it would have been no surprise had Schumacher followed Lowe to Preston.

Very unusually, Schumacher accompanied Lowe when he was interviewed for the Argyle managerial role in 2019 by owner/chairman Simon Hallett and chief executive officer Andrew Parkinson.

And when Lowe agreed a new long-term contract in February, taking him through until the end of the 2023/24 season, Schumacher did the same too.

The pair share the same football philosophy but are very different characters.
