By order of the Peaky Blinders: Birmingham gang drama gets an ‘uplifting' dance remake

Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, announced yesterday, will open this autumn at Birmingham Hippodrome then go on tour in 2023. The show is a collaboration with Rambert dance company and will feature a cast of 20 and a live band playing music specially commissioned for the show.

The French choreographer Benoit Swan Pouffer , who was announced as Rambert’s new artistic director in 2018 , will stage what he describe d as an “inspiring and uplifting” production.

The Peaky Blinders television series follows the exploits of a fictional crime gang in Birmingham. The gang is loosely based on a real street gang of the same name, who were active in the early 20th century . The first series was broadcast on BBC Two in 2013 and its fifth series – taking a primetime Sunday night slot on BBC One – launched to an audience of 6.2 million in 2019. A release date for the sixth series is yet to be confirmed.
