‘Quinta' intensifies, may make landfall in Bicol

Tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 1 was raised Saturday afternoon over parts of Bicol Region, Southern Luzon, and Eastern Visayas due to the approaching tropical depression “Quinta” which continues to gain strength.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hoisted Signal No. 1 over Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, northern portion of Masbate (Mobo, Uson, Milagros, Masbate City, Baleno, Mandaon, Balud, Aroroy, Dimasalang), Ticao and Burias Islands, and southern portion of Quezon (Atimonan, Pagbilao, Padre Burgos, Agdangan, Un isan, Plaridel, Gumaca, Pitogo, Lopez, Macalelon, General Luna, Catanauan, Mulanay, Buenavista, San Narciso, San Andres, San Francisco, Guinayangan, Calauag, Tagkawayan, Quezon, Alabat, Perez) ahead of its landfall in Bicol Region.

These areas may experience 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) of winds or intermittent rains within 36 hours from the time the tropical cyclone warning has been raised.

PAGASA said Signal No. 1 could also be raised over Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and the rest of Quezon province in the next severe weather bulletin at 11 p.m., Saturday.

PAGASA last observed tropical depression Quinta at 610 kilometers (km) east of Juban, Sorsogon around 4 p.m.

It is currently moving at 20 kilometers per hour (kph).
