AN Irish woman was yesterday named the new Mrs World when the disgraced winner quit the role in controversy after pulling the crown off a rival’s head.
Kate Schneider, who was runner-up in the beauty pageant for married women, was elevated and claimed the title after the resignation of Caroline Jurie.
She created a ruckus on stage when she forcefully removed the crown off the head of Mrs Sri Lanka Pushpika De Silva and claimed the competition was unfair.
The highly-charged incident, which led to Mrs De Silva claiming she suffered injuries, was captured on a televised broadcast of the ceremony on April 4.
Mrs World organisers said they had been contacted by Mrs Jurie and informed of her decision to quit and they subsequently announced Mrs Schneider as the new winner.
