HOLLYWOOD was in shock today after the star Alec Baldwin accidentally shot dead the cinematographer working on his new film and wounded the director.
The A-list actor and producer was filming a scene for his Western Rust at a ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico, when a prop gun discharged, fatally wounding photography director Halyna Hutchins and injuring writer-director Joel Souza.
Ms Hutchins, 42, was pronounced dead after being airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital following the incident at around 1.50pm local time. Mr Souza, 48, was treated for his injuries at Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Centre before being released.
Police confirmed that Baldwin discharged the weapon during filming of the 19th century Western. A spokesman for the 63-year-old told the AP news agency the incident involved the misfiring of a prop gun with blanks.
