Rory McIlroy has dismissed the proposed Saudi-backed Super Golf League as a greed-driven “money grab”.
And he predicts it will crash and burn just like football’s European Super League did.
Top players, including world No.1 Dustin Johnson, have been threatened with expulsion from the PGA and European Tours if they sign multi-million-pound contracts to join the breakaway set-up, which is scheduled to launch next autumn.
But four-time Major winner McIlroy has counted himself out, insisting there is more to the top-level sport than just cash.
He said: “Look, you saw what happened in the UK and in Europe with the European Super League.
