Erin Bleakley, 17, said the First Minister’s U-turn was “nice to hear” but now her words must be followed by action – with students getting at least the results they achieved in their prelims.

Sturgeon did a sensational U-turn yesterday by saying her Government “did not get this right” following a week of outrage over the downgrading of 125,000 results – with children from poor areas worst hit.

Sturgeon added: “I am sorry for that.”

We previously told how Erin, of St Andrew’s High School in Carntyne, near Glasgow, led a rally in the city’s George Square on Friday to highlight the unfairness of the exam downgradings.
