Judy Murray says there will be a “black hole” in the summer after Wimbledon became one of sport’s coronavirus casualties.

Until hip surgery suspended his career, her son Andy had twice conquered the strawberry fields of SW19, was runner-up in 2012 and reached four other semi-finals.

Now his brilliance and brinkmanship, which often turned British summertime into a vigil round our TV screens, is off the menu again.

So is his brother Jamie, who has won seven Grand Slam doubles titles – two of them at Wimbledon – and the mother of the pair said: “Inevitably it’s going to feel so strange to have a summer without Wimbledon.

“I’ve been going there every year since 2002, when Jamie and Andy first played in the junior events, and now there is going to be this black hole in the calendar.
