143mph Car Killer Jailed For 8 Years

A Motorist has been jailed for eight years after reaching “staggering” speeds of 143mph before smashing into a vehicle in a tunnel, killing its driver.

Ashraf Salem, 25, ploughed into the back of Osama Sayam’s Audi A2 in his new Range Rover Sport, leaving the 29-year-old to die, the Old Bailey heard.

Judge Richard Marks, QC, said it was the fastest speed he had ever heard of in a case of death by dangerous driving.

The impact left wreckage strewn across the road near the Green Man underpass near Wanstead, east London, where the limit reduces to 40mph.

Paramedics arrived at 2am on September 6, 2018, to find Mr Sayam and his two passengers unresponsive.
