Cleer Audio. An apt ‘does what it says’ name for a headphone brand. A little bulkier than most in the group, the Alpha weighs 330g, is softly padded in all the right places and comfortable to wear for hours at a time. True, vogueish design won’t be on top of the list of any potential buyer, but it is well made with an up-market blend of robust-feeling plastics and soft materials.
Wireless connectivity comes courtesy of Bluetooth 5.1 (far less power hungry than earlier versions), with support for SBC, AAC and aptX Adaptive codecs. The Alpha’s 40mm full-range drivers use what Cleer calls a multiple-magnet ‘ironless’ motor system to banish audible distortion.
