Growing up I always thought I would get into teaching like my mom but I ended up taking a marketing course at the Monash University, South Africa instead. Marketing fascinated me because of the ability to create brands that add value to lives. The only problem is that I get bored quite easily so focusing on just one brand or product gets quite tedious over time. So after school I decided to get into advertising. I wanted to focus on consumers and to understand how they think. I started working at Carat (the front facing side of Dentsu Aegis Network, a multinational media and digital marketing communications company) in 2009. The best thing about advertising is that you can work on a winning car strategy in the morning and a new alcohol brand launch in the afternoon. The pressure is intense but forces you to learn and grow.
