IT specialist Mary Onguko-Wanyonyi is in charge of building businesses in some of the most remote areas in Africa. She talks to ANDANJE WOBANDA about her job and how she maintains work/life balance.

Growing up, I wanted to be a doctor or a hospital matron as my mother was a nurse – that was, until I bumped into computers! I did my first degree in information science with a major in IT at Moi University, and my MBA in strategic management at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

As business development manager at iWayAfrica, my role is to ensure that the company increases its market penetration and grow revenue. Since the company deals with offering solutions over satellite, fibre optic and wireless networks, I help grow the distributorship network within West and Central Africa. I combine my technical and business knowledge to advise our partners on how to maximise on technology to earn returns on investment.
