Invierto 18 horas en mi trabajo y lo hago en la misma habitación donde duermo. Nunca sé si me pagarán o cuándo lo harán. Pasan días sin que cruce una sola palabra con alguien más.
Miércoles, 3 a.m. Estoy sumergida en la tina con mi laptop peligrosamente acomodada en el borde y escribo como loca. Miro el conteo de palabras y voy a la mitad; el artículo que hago lo debo entregar en seis horas, pero estoy agotada y combatiendo un severo brote de cistitis (el baño solo me está ayudando con el dolor). Debí tomarme el día para darle a mi cuerpo el descanso que tanto necesita, pero eso –lamentablemente– no es posible.
Además de este texto tengo más pendientes. Mi agenda está coordinada con precisión de minutos, pues temo que si no cumplo con la fecha límite, mi carrera se desmoronará como una secuencia de fichas de dominó. Tengo comezón en mis ojos por el cansancio, me envuelvo en una toalla y regreso a mi escritorio. No he interactuado con otro ser humano en tres días. Jamás esperé que resultara así. Tres meses antes, cuando tenía un trabajo de tiempo completo, creía que trabajaría en cafeterías al aire libre (con una taza de café artesanal en mano), iría a mis clases de yoga a medio día y tendría viajes de último minuto a la playa. Imaginé “colaboraciones con marcas” y con clientes emocionantes, escribiendo por las noches en mi cama mientras disfrutaba una copa de vino. Me imaginé con tranquilidad, feliz y con la vida perfecta de un freelance que tanto vemos en Instagram. Fui una ilusa.
