Manufacturing of artillery guns is a highly complex science which involves cross-disciplinary architecture, robust design and engineering capability, and intensive knowledge of complex materials, with a solid foundation in metallurgy that forms the backbone of this capability.
The core of any artillery gun system comprises the Ordnance (i.e. Barrel, the Breech Assembly and Muzzle Brake) that requires high-quality steel as a raw material combined with sophisticated manufacturing processes to attain desired attributes of highest levels of strength and durability. The world over, there are a few countries, mostly European with a strong background in metals and metal forming, that possess the capability of artillery systems manufacturing.
